In Memoriam:

Bruce Bickford

(1947 - 2019)

The late Bruce Bickford was an American animator, illustrator, painter, and sculptor based in Seattle, Washington.

Best known for his collaborations with musician Frank Zappa in the 1970s and his appearance in the critically acclaimed 2004 documentary film Monster Road, Bickford created two of the most original clay animated films ever made, Prometheus’ Garden (1988) and CAS’L’ (2018), as well as numerous two-dimensional “line” animations.

His films, illustrations, paintings, and plastiline sculptures have been exhibited in Europe, Japan, throughout the United States, and now, Cyprus.

Though Bickford’s work never achieved widespread commercial success, his singular vision and instantly recognizable aesthetic continue to inspire countless animators and filmmakers around the world.

The Animattikon Project, during its summer edition, is paying tribute the amazing Mr. Bickford, by screening two documentaries focusing on him, both directed by Brett Ingram, Luck of a Foghorn and Monster Road, and two of his remarkable  animatd films, Prometheus’ Garden and CAS’L.
